  • Medical Centre marks Pacific Healthcare’s first foray into India with two more medical facilities in the pipeline – Pacific Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Pacific Stem Cell Bank

  • Group to tap India’s private healthcare sector which has one of the highest proportion of private healthcare spending in the world

Singapore, 29 October 2004
– One of Singapore’s leading healthcare service providers, Pacific Healthcare Holdings (“Pacific Healthcare”), today announced the opening of Pacific Medical Centre, an international medical centre in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, India. The medical centre is Pacific Healthcare’s first venture into India and it will be inaugurated by Dr Tony Tan, Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore.

The Pacific Medical Centre is established under Pacific Hospitals Pvt Ltd (“Pacific Hospitals”), a joint venture between Pacific Healthcare and Vitae Healthcare Pvt. Ltd (“Vitae Healthcare”), a company incorporated in Hyderabad by a group of doctors, scientists, and other healthcare professionals. The centre will provide multi-disciplinary specialist healthcare services including paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, cosmetic surgery, dermatology, implant and aesthetic dentistry as well as comprehensive laboratory services and diagnostic radiology. The centre will also offer spa services for women. The spa will be managed by Haach-Pacific, a joint venture with Haach Holdings, a leading Singapore lifestyle and wellness company.

"Five years ago, my colleagues and I envisioned the setting up of a regional institution of medical excellence guided by our core principles of care and compassion. Today’s opening marks the culmination of more than two years of hard work and we are pleased to be working in partnership with Vitae Healthcare who shares our common vision, philosophy and value system,” said Dr William Chong, Executive Chairman of Pacific Healthcare.

“Our entry into India is part of Pacific Healthcare’s overall regional growth strategy. India has a large and increasing middle class population and a shortage of healthcare facilities. It has also been able to attract patients from various parts of the world. Pacific Hospitals hopes to play a role in meeting this growing domestic and international demand.”

In addition to Pacific Medical Centre, Pacific Hospitals is in the process of establishing other medical facilities. The Pacific Women’s and Children’s Hospital will be a 150-bed, state of the art hospital specialising in Fetal-Maternal Medicine, Reproductive Medicine, Gynaecological Oncology, Neonatology and Paediatrics. The Pacific Stem Cell Bank will provide both private and public cord blood stem cell storage facilities, which has clinical applications in the treatment of blood cancers and disorders. The facilities will be co-located at Khajaguda Village, Hyderabad, off Mumbai Highway.
The foundation stone for the Pacific Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Stem Cell Bank will be laid today by Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Honourable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

Pacific Hospitals has appointed Dr K Krishna Swaroop Reddy as Medical Director of Pacific Medical Centre. Dr Reddy is a Senior Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist and will also oversee the operations of Pacific Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Dr Reddy said, “Pacific Hospitals will offer the Hyderabad community the finest in healthcare services and the latest technology in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Through our multi-disciplinary medical centre, and the rest of our upcoming medical facilities, we aim to provide patients with comprehensive, holistic and patient-centric healthcare services.”

Dr Chong added, “Pacific Medical Centre has become a reality through the combined efforts of our team of healthcare professionals and administrators. However, it would not have been possible without the strong support of the Government of Andhra Pradesh. Pacific Hospitals will strive to be an integral part of the local community and play our part in meeting the healthcare needs of the people of Hyderabad. We will set aside 5% of the capacity of our Hospital for the provision of free services to patients from the low income group. In so doing, we will remain committed to our core values of care and compassion even as we pursue our vision of medical excellence.”
